Being able to create and extract .zip (compressed) files and folders can save you and your users time when it comes to uploading or downloading content. Zipped or compressed files can be either folders or files that are reduced in size. This can be especially helpful if you have a package of several files that need to be kept together to simply the downloading or emailing process.

The following examples and screen shots reference Windows Vista. The process is nearly identical with Windows XP.

Creating a .zip (compressed) file

Right mouse click on the folder or file you wish to compress.

Select "Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder"

Compressing A Folder

In our example the folder is named "Sample Folder". After the above process wee will now have a file called "Sample Folder.zip". We can now email or upload the single .zip file and all of the files contained in the original folder will be included.

IMPORTANT - If you wish to send multiple files inside of a single compressed package open the folder and highlight all of the files (left click > shift), the right mouse click the file list and follow the same process above.

Extracting a .zip (compressed) folder or file.

To extract a compressed file or folder

Right mouse click on the .zip file and select "Extract All"

Extracting A .zip File

Select the destination for your extracted folder. By default it will be the same location as your compressed file and select "Extract".

Select Destination

You will now have a folder with the same name as you compressed folder containing all of the folders and files fro the original .zip file.

Websites are made up of Pages and Modules.

Pages: Pages provide a place for you to display your site content. For example, a site for your Church would have pages about your worship schedule, contract information and a map.

Modules: Pages contain one or more Modules. Modules are bits of functionality which can be added to a page. For example, a calendar page could contain an "Events" module with all of your calendar information, the "Contact Us" page might hold a Test/HTML module with you address and phone number.

The Basic Administration Guide here will be contantly updated to help keep you up to date with the new features available to you.

The Simple Gallery module is a very powerful yet user friendly module to display images on your website.

One of the most difficult issues to handle on your site is the upload and presentation of digital images. Many of the images taken with today's digital cameras approach or exceed 1 MB in size. While these images look great on your monitor and make great prints they are much to large for website distribution. A visitor with a dial-up connection would need to wait 2 1/2 to 3 minutes to download a single image. Imagine what that user would feel like if your photo album contained 20 images!

To minimize the problem of these large files the Simple Gallery module has the capability to resize the images on upload. This allows you to present large numbers of photos on your site without having to resize them prior to upload.

On the following pages will will detail how to use this module as an effective photo gallery for your visitors. We will also explore how this module can be used to resize your images for use inside the Text Editor.
